The College shall maintain an educational environment that is conducive to learning and is “Alcohol Free” for its properties and activities. Except as indicated herein, possession and consumption of alcoholic beverages is not allowed on campus or at any off campus College-sponsored function, event, or activity. In addition, College funds are not to be used for the purchase of alcoholic beverages.
Exceptions
I. On Campus
- On Campus Employee Residences
- Employee residents in interim housing, their family, and guests are allowed to possess and consume alcohol on campus, subject to the following:
- Shall be inside their private residence only; not in public locations
- Shall be discreet, and not result in boisterous or disruptive behavior
- Shall not involve anyone not of legal age (other than immediate family members not otherwise prohibited)
- Shall not involve any student of any age (other than immediate family members not otherwise prohibited)
- Employee residents in interim housing, their family, and guests are allowed to possess and consume alcohol on campus, subject to the following:
- A.L. Mickelson Field Station
- Persons not of legal age shall not be allowed to possess or consume alcoholic beverages either on or off Field Station property while a participant in a group using the Field Station.
- Non-student groups using the Field Station may possess and consume alcoholic beverages with the approval of the Field Station Coordinator.
- Neither student clubs/organizations nor any instructional program shall be permitted to possess or consume alcohol beverages on Field Station property.
- Except as provided for by III of this policy, Field Station management reserves the right to refuse this privilege to any group or individual and further possesses the right to remove this privilege at any time shall it be in the best interests of the College.
- Persons not of legal age shall not be allowed to possess or consume alcoholic beverages either on or off Field Station property while a participant in a group using the Field Station.
- On Campus Events
- Upon approval by the College President, individual events sponsored by the College and/or Northwest College Foundation, may include the service and consumption of alcoholic beverages.
- For events for which such approval is desired, a written request must be submitted to the College President in accordance with policies and procedures established by the College President and approved by the Board.
- Academic-related assignments which do not involve the consumption of alcohol (i.e. photography)
II. Off Campus
- Events Sponsored by the College for the College’s Employees or for Other Non-student Groups
- Alcoholic beverages may be served and/or sold to persons who are of legal age
- Employees (or other non-student group members) who are also students may be served and/or sold alcoholic beverages if they are of legal age and it does not cause disruption or danger for others participating in the event
- Employees (or other non-student group members) who are also students may be served and/or sold alcoholic beverages if they are of legal age and it does not cause disruption or danger for others participating in the event
- Alcoholic beverages may be served and/or sold to persons who are of legal age
- Field Studies, Internships, and Practicums
- Persons, including students, who are of legal age for the location of the Field Study, Internship, or Practicum may possess and consume alcoholic beverages, subject to the following:
- Persons have the explicit approval of the person in charge of the program
- It does not conflict with the nature or purpose of the program
- It does not cause disruption or danger for others participating in the program
- Persons, including students, who are of legal age for the location of the Field Study, Internship, or Practicum may possess and consume alcoholic beverages, subject to the following:
- With the area Vice President approval, the event sponsor has the authority to institute rules that are more stringent than this policy.
- Persons operating College vehicles or transporting people for the College in any other vehicle must comply with the provisions of the College’s Drug and Testing Program as it applies to safety-sensitive positions.
The College has a Drug and Alcohol Testing Policy and Program that conforms to the Department of Transportation (DOT) Drug and Alcohol Testing Program Regulations 49 CFR Part 40 and Federal Motor Carriers Safety Administration (FMCSA) Regulation 49 CFR Part 382. This policy and program applies to drivers whose job duties require them to possess a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), and those employees that may perform safety-sensitive functions regulated by DOT Agency Regulation.
