3100 Definition of Faculty

The faculty consists of individuals appointed to instructional and/or academic duties through issuance of a faculty contract.

Division Chairs are full-time tenured faculty with both instructional and administrative responsibilities within their divisions. The Director of Nursing is a faculty member who serves in the place of the Division Chair in matters affecting the Nursing Program, nursing faculty, nursing curriculum, nursing budget, and overall Program effectiveness (see policy 3710 “Director of Nursing”).

Faculty members hired into permanent staff positions shall be issued staff employment agreements and shall not be considered faculty. 

A fixed-term faculty member is either an adjunct faculty semester-to-semester employee, or a temporary, non-tenure track, full-time employee appointed to instructional and/or academic duties at the College for a specified period of time. Adjunct faculty load generally does not exceed nine credit hours per semester.

Tenure-track and tenured faculty are individuals appointed to instructional and/or academic duties at the College on a continuing contract basis. Tenure-track and tenured faculty are assigned the following rank:

  • Instructor
  • Assistant Professor
  • Associate Professor
  • Professor
